Grand Canyon 2003 (Day 4)
Cheryl and Randy and Rhonda's Kanab Creek adventure, May 23 - June 1, 2003
Tuesday, May 27, 2003
It had been a very windy night, and since we'd bedded down in a nice soft sand dune, there was sand stuck to all of our orifices when we woke up this morning. Cheryl got a nosebleed that just wouldn't stop, probably from the dry air and packed sand up the nose, so she had an interesting time packing up camp one-handed.
Today we're going to start back up Kanab Creek, and this time we'll explore the side canyons as we go up.

We got to the Whispering Falls side canyon pretty early, and were just relaxing before heading up to see the falls (the Slide of Susurrus is harder to say...Whispering Falls is more preferable IMHO). We were having a snack and playing lizard on the rocks before heading up the canyon, when three folks come into sight from upstream...wow, people! They were camping at Showerbath Spring and hiked down to the falls for the day. The one fellow's been coming here for 20 years he says, and has never made it to the river yet, they always get only as far as this side canyon.

After thoroughly enjoying the morning in this magical side canyon, we decided to enjoy the afternoon there as well...matter of fact we never left! We ended up coming back down to Kanab Creek in the afternoon, and set up camp at the junction.
