Grand Canyon 2003 (Day 3)Cheryl and Randy and Rhonda's Kanab Creek adventure, May 23 - June 1, 2003
Monday, May 26, 2003
First thing this morning, Randy spots a flock of mountain sheep threading their way along the steep slopes high above us. I try a few photos, but it's early and they're pretty far up the cliff. They are so nimble, we watch as they gracefully scamper along the narrow ledges.

We continue to the river, deciding to hold off on side canyon exploration until our return trip. This is a fun day of hiking to the river...travertine seeps, hiking in and out of the water, sometimes with ledges to walk along the side of the creek.

The trail becomes more prominent as we approach the river, from the many day hikers that have come up from the river to Whispering Falls. It was just a half day's worth of hiking from Scotty's Castle to the river, so we have all afternoon to explore, nap or read. Only one boating group, a private trip, came down the river all afternoon, and they just ran the rapids and didn't stop. The first people we've seen since we left Fredonia several days ago!

Dinner tonight is LoMein with dehydrated ground beef, mushrooms and broccoli, with chow mein noodles for topping. More delicious beverages emerged from Randy's pack as sipping appetizers. The dessert chocolates were totally melted, but delicious to drink :-)
